Realistic Drawing
9 yrs+
Around 9 to 10 years old, children start to doubt their drawing skills. They compare their finished drawings to other kids’ work and feel their work isn’t ‘as good as theirs’. Peer recognition and acceptance becomes increasingly important at this age and if they feel they don’t measure up, they can give up drawing and art altogether. (Read: screwed up drawings thrown across the room!) What they don’t see is that they are simply lacking the skills to move to the next level, from cartoon-style drawing to realistic drawing.
Our artKids Introduction to Realistic Drawing 9 yrs+ covers the foundation drawing skills required for children (and adults!) to progress further with their drawing.
Our program covers:
Mark making – pressure, direction, speed, angle
Continuous line drawings
Sketching – seeing simple shapes within objects
Understanding tone
Understanding perspective
Simple compositions – line, shape and tone
Creating textures
The Introductory Program is currently offered only during the School Holidays program over three consecutive mornings. Our aim is to run it each school holiday program. Once completed, the children can attend our Saturday or after-school classes with greater understanding of how drawing underpins all art-making processes. They can choose to work on our regular class projects or choose a realistic theme – animals, nature, faces, etc. For older students, we have a dedicated Realistic Drawing Continuing component in our artTeens Saturday class.
Fees: Each of the sessions builds on the previous day’s class. The Monday class is essential. Book all three and get a 5% discount – just $213.75 (regular sessions $75 each). Fee includes all materials used, morning tea and GST.
